# Ask ASC

Ask ASC about your messages, To Dos and on-call schedule right in the Client Portal, and keep your on-call calendar current.

Ask ASC is an AI assistant built into your Client Portal. Ask about your account in plain language instead of searching screen by screen.

### Where to find it

Sign in to the Client Portal and select **Ask ASC** at the top right. Ask ASC works in the Client Portal on computers and phone browsers. It isn't in the mobile app.

### What you can ask

* "Show my new messages"
* "Who's on call right now?"
* "What To Dos are open on my account?"
* "Find the latest message from a caller"

Ask ASC can read your messages and their notes, your To Dos, your on-call calendar and contacts, and your escalation levels.

### What it can change

The same changes your login can make in the Client Portal, and nothing more:

* Add a note to a message.
* Add, edit or remove on-call events, on-call contacts and how each contact is reached, on accounts where your login has **Oncall Calendar Management** access.

Every change waits for you to approve it on screen. Other changes stay with our team, including To Dos, new messages, escalation levels, phone lines, scripts and AI answering settings. If you ask for one of them, Ask ASC tells you and suggests sending it to your account manager.

### Your data stays protected

Ask ASC sees only the accounts your Client Portal login belongs to, and never another customer's data.

### If you don't see it

Ask ASC is on for every account. If you don't see **Ask ASC**, or it says "AI is not turned on for your account. Ask your account manager to turn it on." or "AI is paused for your account right now. Ask your account manager to turn it back on.", contact your account manager.

### Prefer your own AI app?

Connect ChatGPT, Claude, or another AI app that supports MCP with the same Client Portal login. See [MCP](/docs/ai/ask-asc-and-mcp/mcp.md).

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the following URL with the `ask` and `goal` query parameters:

```
GET https://answeringservicecare.com/docs/ai/ask-asc-and-mcp/ask-asc.md?ask=<question>&goal=<user_goal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is what the user is ultimately trying to achieve, the reason they need the answer. Sharing it helps GitBook give you a better, more relevant answer. A goal is most helpful when it describes the outcome the user wants rather than restating the question. For example, with `ask=how do I create an API token`, a goal like `automate deployments from our CI pipeline` lets GitBook tailor the answer to that use case.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
