# Multilingual AI

ASC answers callers in 80+ languages, with multilingual AI answering and a live AI interpreter that joins agent calls.

Your callers can talk to ASC in the language they are most comfortable in. Multilingual AI handles calls in more than 80 languages, and when a live agent takes the call, an AI interpreter can join to relay both sides in real time.

### What your callers get

* **AI answering in their language.** On AI and hybrid plans, the assistant greets callers, follows your script, and asks your questions in the caller's language. If the caller switches languages partway through, the assistant can switch with them.
* **An interpreter on live calls.** When a caller speaks another language, our agent brings an AI interpreter onto the call. The caller hears the agent in their language, and the agent hears the caller in English.
* **The same 24/7 backstop.** A call that needs a person still reaches a live agent at any hour, in any supported language.

### What you get

* **Messages in English.** Messages from interpreted calls are taken in English and arrive through your usual delivery methods, like any other message.
* **No separate interpreter contract.** Language coverage is part of your ASC service, set up per account.
* **Fewer lost callers.** Callers who would hang up when they hear English can finish the call, leave a message, or book an appointment.

### How the AI interpreter works on a live call

{% stepper %}
{% step %}

### The agent confirms the language

The interpreter joins and the agent confirms which language the caller speaks. If the language is unclear, the interpreter asks once to clarify rather than guessing.
{% endstep %}

{% step %}

### The caller is oriented

The interpreter introduces itself to the caller in their language and asks them to speak one sentence at a time, then cues the agent to begin.
{% endstep %}

{% step %}

### Both sides are interpreted

Everything the agent says reaches the caller in their language, and everything the caller says reaches the agent in English. The interpreter relays what was said in the first person, without summarizing, softening, or adding to it.
{% endstep %}

{% step %}

### The agent wraps up

Only the agent closes the call. The interpreter says goodbye in both languages, and your message is delivered in English.
{% endstep %}
{% endstepper %}

### Built for accuracy

An answering service lives on details, so interpreted calls follow strict rules:

* **Names are spelled out.** When a caller spells a name, the agent hears every letter phonetically, for example "S as in Sam, A as in Apple."
* **Numbers are exact.** Phone numbers, account numbers, and confirmation codes are relayed digit by digit, in order.
* **Nothing is invented.** If a statement is unclear, the interpreter asks that person to repeat it rather than guessing.
* **Wrong language, quick fix.** If the caller turns out to speak a different language, the interpreter switches on the spot.

### Languages

ASC supports more than 80 languages, including Spanish, French, German, Portuguese, Italian, Dutch, Russian, Polish, Arabic, Hindi, Mandarin, Japanese, Vietnamese, and Haitian Creole.

To confirm the languages enabled for your account, contact your account manager.

### Try it

Call the **Hank Hill Law** demo line at (866) 651-1489 and start in Spanish, for example "Necesito hablar con un abogado sobre un accidente de auto." The assistant runs the whole intake in Spanish.

### Get started

Language coverage is set up per account with your implementation specialist. Ask your account manager to enable the languages your callers need, or contact <sales@answeringservicecare.com>.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the following URL with the `ask` and `goal` query parameters:

```
GET https://answeringservicecare.com/docs/ai/ai-features/multilingual.md?ask=<question>&goal=<user_goal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is what the user is ultimately trying to achieve, the reason they need the answer. Sharing it helps GitBook give you a better, more relevant answer. A goal is most helpful when it describes the outcome the user wants rather than restating the question. For example, with `ask=how do I create an API token`, a goal like `automate deployments from our CI pipeline` lets GitBook tailor the answer to that use case.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
