Q&A With….Ramona Martin

This month we sat down with Ramona Martin, a member of our professional Answering Service agent team.

What’s your role with Answering Service Care and where were you before?

Since February of 2014, I’ve been a part of this great answering service team. I take calls from all over – Israel, Japan, England, and of course the U.S. – and anyone who calls in is someone I could potentially talk to. I answer questions, share information, relay messages and help people in any way that I can.

What does this job mean to you?

I love this job, I really do. Actually, this is my first full-time job in 40 years. I was a hairdresser part-time for 40 years, but my leg started to bother me and I just couldn’t do it anymore. I didn’t think I was going to be able to do something like this, but I love talking to people and I love talking on the phone. When people call and reach me as their operator, I try to help them out, to help them perk up a bit. I just talk to them, try to make them happy and do what I can to lend a hand. I’m so happy to be here, and I am grateful to say I enjoy my job.

The support I have had here is unbelievable. The team here, down to every last person, is positive, inspiring and so helpful. They couldn’t do any more than what they are doing. That’s amazing to me, and I don’t take anything for granted.

Have you learned any important lessons while working at Answering Service Care?

Even before I worked here, it was always important to me to connect positively with others. You never know what someone else is going through. I feel like I can help anyone smile and have a better day. This job has helped my mind. Just talking to people, you learn a lot, and you see what they are going through. It puts perspective on everything.

People are people, and everyone has a story to tell. If you can help them see the day differently, that is a great thing. This job allows me to do that.

What do you do on your days off?

It’s funny but I am not tired when I am here at work. When it’s my day off, I’m exhausted! I get energized at work. Even when I am on my break, I look around and see how wonderful everyone is – everyone is friendly, it’s such a great atmosphere.

I am very happy to be working here. At almost 61, I didn’t think I would be working full-time, but it’s so much easier on my body than hairdressing, I have a very nice workstation and it’s comfortable. And on my days off, sometimes I still help some ladies with their hair, especially some older ones whose houses I go to and do what I can to help them look and feel pretty. When their hair is done, they feel good!
