Why AI Disclosure Matters

Hidden AI Erodes Trust and Puts Jobs at Risk

Artificial intelligence can now mimic human voices so well that most people can’t tell the difference. While AI can help businesses work more efficiently, it also opens the door to deception.

Consumers Want Transparency.

Our independent survey, detailed in Robots Reveal Yourself: The AI Call Report, found that 8 in 10 Americans believe companies should be required to announce when AI is on the call.

Trust breaks when it doesn’t.

37% say they would lose confidence in a company that hides AI, and many describe the experience as a betrayal.

The Stakes are Real.

Hidden AI drives up abandoned calls and threatens U.S. call-center jobs, while businesses shoulder growing compliance and reputational risk.

What consumers and small businesses are asking for is simple: one clear, upfront sentence at the beginning of every AI-driven conversation.

Our Mission & The ASC AI Disclosure

This initiative is about more than consumer trust—it’s about protecting jobs, safeguarding our industry, and ensuring that businesses are not undermined by undisclosed AI practices.

Pass Strong Laws.

We’re urging lawmakers to require a single, plain-language disclosure whenever AI is used in conversations, decision-making, or content creation—mirroring long-standing call-recording and telemarketing rules like the TCPA.

Back State Momentum.

States are already acting. Utah’s law is in force, Colorado and Texas have passed broad disclosure requirements, and California, New Jersey, Tennessee, and Illinois are setting complementary standards. Businesses with national footprints are already adopting disclosure-first policies to stay ahead.

Protect Small Businesses and Jobs.

A clear national rule helps small businesses avoid a costly state-by-state compliance maze and keeps American call-center jobs competitive.

Goal:

The fix is simple. Just as we disclose when a call is recorded, we should disclose when AI is on the line

"You’re speaking with an AI assistant today. I’ll do my best to answer your questions quickly."
